Genesis pt17

Trust God

Genesis22:1 -2Sometime later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” ” Here I am, ” he replied. Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love-Issac- and go to the region of Moriah, Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”

Hebrews 11:19 Abraham  reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did receive Issac back from death.

Luke14:26 If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters- yes, even their own life – such a person cannot be my disciple.

1 Abraham’s trust in God’s character was greater than the circumstance.

2. Abrahams test showed his devotion to God.

3. Abraham’s devotion led to blessing.

Message Summary: Pastor Tony shared On God’s call for Abraham to sacrifice his son, and Abraham ‘s obedience to that call. To truly walk in who God has created us to be means that we must be willing to give everything to Godand trust him with whatever you’ve been asked to scarifice. When you fully scarifice to God it enables you to live a life of blessing.

  1. This is a disgusting story. It shows how people idolize a willingness to destroy what is most precious in order to prove themselves. This story has terrorized children for generations. The fact that this “act of faith” is seen as anything other than deplorable demonstrates the total depravity of faith.

The way the account is described here and the application would certainly reflect all the things faithinquestion indicates. However it is explained far better by the Bible itself.
The account is one of faith and allows us to understand how far God has gone in our behalf. Abraham had confidence that whatever happened his son wasn’t lost to him.
We could sacrifice all we have, kill family members, the innocent passerby and that wouldn’t have anything to do with. No one else other than God has been asked to make this sacrifice and had to go through with it.
Let the bible explain itself and don’t rely on preachers to teach what they think it says. We all have questions and tests of faith, experience indicates the more we find out for ourselves the greater our personal faith is.

That is right on trotter 387. But also the story shows that God will provide us in a time of need.
