Galatians Pt4

Faith or Works.

Galatians 3:1-2 You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by observing law, or by believing what you heard?

Did you receive the spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard?

Romans 10:17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.

Does God give you his spirit and work miracles among you by the works , or by your believing what you heard.

Galatians 3:9 So those who have faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

Galatians 3:10 All who rely on observing the law are under a curse, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of theLaw.”

Galatians pt3

Changed by God

1. It is empowering for a believer to hear from God themselves.

2. It is life-changing for a believer when they encounter the grace of God.

Summary of the Experiencing God Series:

1.God invites me to join him where he is working.

2. God speaks by his Spirit through the Bible, Prayer, the Church, and circumstances.

3. God’s invitation will lead to a crisis of belief.

4. My decision to join God will require faith and an adjustment.

5. We experience God as we join Him where  he is working.

” My speech is no longer directed by the flesh, but by the Holy Ghost. My sight is no longer governed  by the flesh, but by the Holy Ghost. My hearing is no longer determined by the flesh, but by the Holy Ghost. I cannot teach, write, pray, or give, thanks without the instrumentality of the flesh; yet these activities do not proceed from the flesh, but from God.”-Martin Luther

Freedom from Judgements: Acts286:28-29

Freedom from Prison: Acts16:25

Freedom from Death: 1 Corinthians 15:20-22

I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!” Galatians 2:21

Galatians Pt2

Who are you trying to please?”

If it were not for the example of the Galatian churches I would never have thought it possible that anybody who had received the Word of God with such eagerness as they had, could so quickly let go of it. Good Lord, what terrible mischief one single false statement can create.”.-Martin Luther.

1.They had been radically changed by the person of Jesus Christ

“I too may say that before I was enlightened by the Gospel, I was zealous for the papiscal laws and traditions of the fathers Asa ever a man was, I tried to live up to every law as best as I could. I punished myself with fasting, watching, praying, and other experiences more than who today hate and pressure me. I was so much in earnest that I imposed upon my body more than it could stand.”- Martin Luther.

Soli Deo Gloria: We live for the glory of God alone.

Sola Gratia: We are saved by the grace of God line.

2. They (Paul&Luther began to seek to God.

“To this day you will find many who seek to please men in order that they may live in peace and security. They teach what ever is agreeable to men, no matter whether it is contrary to God’s Word or their own conscience. But we who endeavor to please God and not men, stir up hell itself.”-Martin Luther.

Big Idea: This week Pastor Jordan shared that Martin Luther and Paul were radically changed by the person of Christ After their conversion, they began to see who they were and who they had been, could be used by God to bring him glory in a greater way. When you experience the grace of Christ and put your faith in Him, the life you are living transforms onto a life to glorify God. Read Galatians1:10. As Christians, we are free to live in obedience to God instead of trapped I the never-ending attempt to please people.

Galatians Pt 1

I Found Freedom

Galatians 1:1-9

A Christian is a perfectly free lord of all, subject to no one. A Christian is a perfectly dutiful servant of all, subject to all.”

Freedom From.

3. Sin

4. Present Evil Age

“If we surrender faith in Christ, as the only thing that can justify… [we make] God a liar, because He would not have fulfilled His promises. -Luther

“True faith lays hold of Christ and leans on him alone.” Luther

“There is much imparity [inequality] among men in the world. And it is a good thing. If the woman would change places with the man,if the son would change places and with the father, the servant with the master, nothing but confusion, would result. In Christ, however, all are equal… The Christ of Peter, Paul, and all the saints is our Christ.”- Luther

“You are saved. Christ is your liberty and life. Therefore law, sin and death not hurt you or drive you to dispair. This is the construction of your priceless liberty. Now take care that you do not use your wonderful liberty for an ocassion of the flesh. ” -Luther

Big Idea: This week Pastor Eric began our new series on the letter Paul wrote to the Galatians. In 1517 the book of Galatians had a major impact on Martin Luther and influenced him as he led the Great Reformation . God rescued mankind out of slavary of the dark ages and He is still rescuing us today. In Galatians, the words “free” or  “freedom” are used 11 times and “slave ” or “slavery” is used 13 times. This letter challenges us to move into freedom through believing in Christ and his his work on the cross. In Galatians5:1 we read “It is for freedom that Christ has sert us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves he burdened again by a yoke of slavery .” Here is four areas Pastor Eric shared we now have freedom in.

1.Freedom from works . (Galatians2:4)

2. Freedom from Judgement (Galatians3:28)

3. Freedom from sin(Galatians5:1)

4. Freedom from this Present Evil Age(Galatians4:26)

Core Value #7

 We Give Generously

Matt 22:15-22

1. Generosity is at the Heart of God

2. Generosity is not about what I have but what I think and do.

3. Generosity is in opposition to my sinful nature.

4.Generosity requires you to ask God for help.

1Cor 16:1-2

5Tools from God to help us.

1.Tithing  10 percent of income. Mal3:9-12

2. Holy Spirit  1 Cor 11:1-2

3. Vision

4. Community

This week Pastor Eric discussed our last core value. He shared four ideas that will help us grow in our ability to give generously:

1. Generosity is at the heart of God in Gen1:27-29  we read about the generosity of God in the Garden.

2. Generosity is not about what I have, but what I think and do. When Jesus fed the 5,000 and in the widow’s offering we see generosity unfold even in the limited resources of the people.

3. Generosity is in opposition to my sinful nature.

4. Generosity requires you to ask God for help. Since generosity is in opposition to our sinful nature,we need God’s help to live a truly generous lifestyle.

Core Values 5&6

We Share our Faith and We serve our church and our Community.

Core Value #5 We share our faith with others.

We believe that every Christian is responsible for living for living out their faith in Jesus before others in a tangible way.(Philemon 1:6)

Core Value#6 We serve our church and community. We believe every Christian is uniquely called, specifically positioned and supernaturally equipped to build the church.(1Peter4:10-11)

Jesus moved moved the temple, from a tent to our hearts. Jesus has made us priests!

If you are  a Christian you are a priest of God’s temple and that temple is you.

Sharing our faith isn’t what we do it’s who we are.

Serving our church isn’t what we do. It’s who we are

Serving our community, our people, it isn’t what we do. It’s who we are.

Jesus will show you how to show your faith.

Jesus will show you where to serve the church he built.

Jesus will show you who needs priestly attention in your community.

Both core values address keeping our eyes on serving this church and community. There are people who will experience God when they walk through these doors, and our job is to serve in such a way that makes it easy. Then, there are people who will never know the halls of a church, but they will know you. You are priests serving the people around you.
